Foundation stone laid for new college building in Sri Lanka with aid from India

• In Sri Lanka, the foundation stone was laid to start the construction of new buildings at Saraswathy Central College in Pusselaw of Kandy district.

• The renovation of the college is being done using a grant of around Rs. four crores from the Government of India.

• The foundation stone was laid by Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka jointly with Sri Lankan State Minister for Education Mr V. Radhakrishnan.

• Several Members of Parliament and Central Provincial Council, senior Officials along with a large number of public participated in the event.

• The new buildings will accommodate science labs, lecture halls and teachers’ quarters.

• The project also involves repair and renovation of existing buildings as well as full renovation of the school playground.

• This project is in continuation of Government of India’s efforts to partner with Government of Sri Lanka in peoples oriented development projects especially in the field of education.

• India’s overall commitment of development assistance to Sri Lanka stands at a total of around 3 billion US dollars, out of which 550 million is pure grant assistance.
