• India has invited US President Donald Trump to be the Chief Guest for next year’s Republic Day Parade.

• Haryana government has announced that the individuals accused of Rape and Molestation will be barred from government services including losing their driving and arms licenses and old-age pension till their trial is completed. Further, the victims will be provided Rs 22,000 if they want to hire a lawyer other than the one provided by the state.

• Uttarakhand government has announced that it will make provisions for awarding death penalty to rapists of minor girls. Currently, MP, Rajasthan and Haryana have approved death penalty for rapists of girls aged up to 12.

• India will sign a MoU with Bangladesh to ease visa restrictions for citizens from the neighbouring country.

• Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani became the richest person of Asia dethroning Chinese e-commerce Alibaba’s founder Jack Ma.

• Scientists from New Zealand have performed the first-ever 3D, colour X-ray on a human body, using the imaging technology developed for the Large Hadron Collider at the CERN physics lab.

• The 6th meeting of BRICS Education Ministers was held at Cape Town, South Africa. The theme of the meeting was ‘Deepening BRICS Education Partnership and Exchanges.’ The ministers signed a declaration to address 21st-century challenges and opportunities regarding the fourth industrial revolution.

• MP CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan inaugurated NTPC’s 250 MW solar power plant in Mandsaur. The project has been set up on non-agricultural land and is one of the biggest solar plants developed using domestically manufactured solar cells and modules with an investment of about Rs 1,500 crore.

• Indian Railways has launched its first consolidated Bridge Management System, a web-enabled IT application to store data about assimilation, analysis and dissemination of information related to various activities on its one lakh fifty thousand bridges.

• UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres constituted a high-level panel on Digital Cooperation. The panel will be co-chaired by Melinda Gates and Jack Ma.

• In order to reduce electricity losses, the Maharashtra government will launch ‘one farmer, one transformer’ scheme from 15th August. Two lakh farmers will be given electricity connection for high voltage distribution line which will ensure uninterrupted power supply.

• The 100 acre Fossil Museum at Varanavasi near Ariyalur town of Tamil Nadu will soon be inaugurated by the Chief Minister. The museum will showcase the natural formation of rocks that provide evidence of dinosaurs and other associated reptilians in the Ariyalur region.

• Google has launched ‘Launchedpad Accelerator India’ which is a comprehensive mentorship programme for Indian startups that are using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to build solutions for the pressing problems in the country. The selected 8-10 startups will get Google’s mentorship and $100k Google Credits.
