• Finance minister Piyush Goyal presented the Interim Budget for 2019-20. Some highlight on the budget 2019 are: The defence budget has been increased to over Rs.3 lakh crore.

• Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine said that the National Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign will be held in Tamil Nadu on March 10. Nearly 72 lakh children under the age of five will be covered in Tamil Nadu.

• The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said that more than 170 million digital TV customers in India would not face any service disruption on account of the introduction of the new tariff regime in broadcasting from February 1, 2019.

• The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has been renamed as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade with a mandate to deal with matters related to start-ups, facilitating ease of doing business among others.

• With a view to improving the first and the last-mile connectivity to Kochi metro in the city, a competition titled “Data Innovation Challenge” was launched in Kochi, Kerala.

• The Ministry of Finance said that Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections crossed the Rs.1 lakh crore mark in January.

• The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is to get its new communication satellite GSAT-31 aloft in space on February 6 from French Guiana on a hired European rocket. GSAT-31 will replace the INSAT-4CR. GSAT-31 weighs roughly 2,500 kg.

• Ajai Kumar is appointed as the interim CEO of Yes Bank. He will hold the charge of MD & CEO till the new CEO Ravneet Gill joins the lender. Yes Bank said that the Reserve Bank of India had approved the interim appointment.

• Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte along with UN representative launched Africa Centre for Climate and Sustainable development. The new center is located near the Food and Agriculture Organization headquarters in Rome.

• India will take on Italy in the Davis Cup World Group qualifiers beginning in Kolkata.

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to allow three public sector banks, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra and Oriental Bank of Commerce, to exit the PCA framework.

• Scientists developed an artificial pancreas smartphone app that will help to analyze blood sugar levels in diabetes patients.

• Lt Gen Rajeev Chopra took charge as the Director General of NCC (DGNCC) in New Delhi. He has been awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service in January 2018.

• Punit Goenka, Managing director and CEO, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd re-elected the new chairman of TV viewership measurement company, BARC India. He was the founder of BARC India.
