• NCERT has initiated the process of introducing QR code in their textbooks. This move will help students understand chapters better by watching a film or reading additional content on laptops and digital boards.

• The Environment Ministry has re-introduced the ‘Medini Puraskar Yojana’ – a scheme that awards Indian authors for their original work in Hindi on the environment, pollution and climate change subjects.

• UP police have planned to set up ‘Digital Armies’ of the outstanding residents to keep vigil on inflammatory posts and rumour-mongering. The aim is to restrict the incidents of violence due to the fake news on social media.

• India is planning to buy environmentally friendly TaxiBots, which can be used at the airports, developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). These pilot-controlled and semi-robots will allow pilots to switch on the plane’s engines only when it reaches the starting point of the runway hence reducing carbon emission.

• First International Festival of Mizoram ‘Mizo Hnahthlak’ was organized on July 22 at Aizawl, Mizoram. The festival showcased the rich cultural folk dances, colourful traditional attires, mass bamboo dance, and agricultural dance of Chakma and Hmar communities.

• To improve the expertise and capabilities of the railway employees, the Indian Railways inaugurated Regional Rail Training Institute at Ghazipur, UP.

• Google is developing a new operating system for mobile phones called ‘Fuchsia’ which is expected to replace Android.

• Paytm is going to launch its services in Japan in collaboration with Japanese multinational conglomerate SoftBank.

• Federal Bank, a private sector lender, received the permission of RBI to open its offices in Bahrain, Kuwait and Singapore.

• National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will block transactions made within the same account using different UPI IDs, effective from August 1. The ban is aimed at stopping customers from making multiple and unnecessary transactions to get cashback.

• A new Cruise Terminal capable of handling 5000 tourists will be set up at Ernakulum Wharf of Cochin Port. The cruise terminal will be on a 2253 sq meters area and will cost Rs 25.72 crore. It will have all the modern facilities to provide comfort to the passengers.

• Four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes won the German Grand Prix 2018.

• A book titled ‘The Dhoni Touch’, authored by Bharat Sundaresan has recently been released.
