• Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) 40th communication satellite GSAT-31 has been launched successfully by European launch services provider- Ariane-5 rocket from French Guiana.

• The New Mangaluru Port received a long-range vessel which was on its maiden voyage after being commissioned in Mangaluru.

• Google is to shut down its Google Plus platform, which had been originally conceived as a social networking option different from Facebook and Twitter. This announcement was made in December 2018.

• The Union Ministry of Coal on February 4, 2019, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ministry of Energy, the Republic of Poland in New Delhi on cooperation in the field of coal mining.

• The National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed a cost of Rs.25 lakh on the Uttar Pradesh government for failing to stop dumping of sewage and untreated water in the Upper Ganga Canal.

• A committee, chaired by Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan, approved wildlife clearance to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad fast bullet train corridor that encroaches upon a Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary and the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the home to leopards, in Mumbai.

• Axis Bank, UCO Bank and Syndicate Bank are penalized with a total of Rs.5.2 Crore by RBI Bank for violating the guidelines in regulatory compliance.

• Food delivery startup Swiggy a Bengaluru-based AI startup for an undisclosed amount. As part of the deal,’s founding members Pavithra Solai Jawahar and Jagannathan Veeraraghavan will join the Swiggy team.

• Kala Ghoda festival, India’s largest multi-cultural street festival begins in Mumbai to celebrate its 20 years of art and culture through cinema, theatre, dance, literature, and sculpture. The festival hosted the exhibition at the Jehangir Art Gallery.

• External Affairs Minister Smt Sushma Swaraj and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the 30th National Road Safety Week, 2019 at Gandhi Smriti and Darshan, Rajghat, New Delhi.

• A World Heritage Centre housing ‘spiritual camps’ of 45 countries would be set up at Mayapur, the global headquarters of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), in Nadia district.

• US announced that it is to withdraw from the INF treaty. After the announcement, the Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that the country is to make two types of missile in the year 2019-20.

• Shehri Samridhi Utsav, an initiative of Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), is launched with the aim to extend the reach of Deendayal Antyodaya Mission – National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).

• Ministry of Union Labour and Employment allowed women to work in mines, both in opencast and underground, during the day and night, as part of the efforts to build more opportunities for women.
