• India’s first nuclear-powered submarine INS Arihant completed its first deterrence patrol. The submarine completes India’s nuclear triad which means that the country now has the capability of firing nuclear weapons from land, air and sea.

• India announced that it would extend a $310 million loan to Zimbabwe to finance a rehabilitation project for a thermal power plant that would entail upgrading the station and extending its lifespan.

• Karnataka State to sanction Rs.42 crore to BBMP for immediate cleaning of SWDs.

• Plans for Antarctic sanctuary was shot down.

• World Tsunami Awareness Day being observed today. In December 2015, the UN General Assembly designated 5 November as World Tsunami Awareness Day.

• World’s largest supercomputer ‘SpiNNaker’ switched on for the first time. The world’s largest neuromorphic supercomputer SpiNNaker (‘Spiking Neural Network Architecture’ machine).

• Pari Singh, 22-yr-old Jharkhand girl heads Australia High Commission for a day. She got the opportunity after winning an annual programme held to mark the United Nations’ International Day of the Girl Child.

• Delhi’s Signature Bridge inaugurated 14 years after conceptualisation. Signature Bridge over the Yamuna river is double the height of Qutub Minar and connects the Wazirabad across the river Yamuna to the inner city.

• Nagaland records highest school dropouts in India. As per survey conducted by the World Bank, the student dropout rate in Nagaland’s upper primary (VI-VIII) and the secondary (IX-X) class stood at 17.7 per cent and 35.1 per cent respectively.

• Reliance Industries receives India’s first LC payment via blockchain. British bank HSBC Holdings Plc has executed a trade finance transaction using blockchain for a deal involving an export by Reliance Industries to an American client, Tricon Energy.
