• World’s first thermal battery plant was unveiled in Andhra Pradesh by the CM Chandrababu Naidu. Manufactured by the Bharat Energy Storage Technology Private Limited, the first-of-its-kind batteries will aim to boost renewable sources of energy production and reduce the dependence on non-renewable fossil fuel based energy generation.

• HDFC Life Insurance Company inked an agreement with Vijaya Bank to tap customers of the state-owned lender. The bank branches will help to ensure a greater reach of HDFC life enabling the insurer to reach out to a wider and diverse section of the population.

• NITI Aayog’s International Conference on ‘Sustainable Growth through Material Recycling: Policy Prescriptions’ was inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari. The conference brought together a host of experts for identifying policy prescriptions for the development and growth of material recycling in India.

• Google has launched the latest version of Android operating system called ‘Pie’.

• Italian motorcycle-maker Benelli signed a MoU with Telangana Government for setting up a manufacturing facility.

• SpaceX is going to launch its biggest batch of more than 70 satellites into orbit aboard its Falcon 9 rocket later this year.

• China has tested a hypersonic ‘waverider’ aircraft Zingkong-2. It flies in the atmosphere and uses shockwave generated by its own hypersonic flight with air to glide at high speed. Currently, the US and Russia are also developing similar aircraft.

• Saudi Arabia has announced that it is freezing all new trade and investment with Canada over its interference in its internal matters.

• China has launched a new generation supercomputer prototype Sunway that can execute a quintillion calculation per second. It was developed by the National Research Centre of Parallel Computer, National Supercomputing Centre.

• For the first time, Facial recognition software will be used at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

• The Netherlands won the 14th edition of Women’s Hockey World Cup 2018 by defeating Ireland.
