• Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has set up its first solar-based electric vehicle (EV) charger on the Delhi-Chandigarh Highway. The project is covered under the FAME scheme (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles).

• The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has appointed scientist Ajit Kumar Mohanty as its Director. He has been appointed for a period of three years.

• The Delhi government threw open to the public four fully automated driving test centres. The first of the fully Automated Driving Test Centres (ADTCs) was inaugurated by Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot at Mayur Vihar I Regional Transport Office.

• Toyota to join hands with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Japan’s space agency, on a planned mission to the moon, with the Japanese auto giant expected to develop a lunar rover.

• India has nominated Ramesh Chandra, a member of Niti Ayog, to head Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO). Ramesh Chand’s candidature is challenged by Qu Dongyu of China, Medi Moungui of Cameroon, Catherine Geslain-Laneelle of France and Davit Kirvalidze of Georgia.

• The Government of India, the State Government of Chhattisgarh and the World Bank signed a $25.2 Million Loan Agreement to support the State’s Reforms in Expenditure Management under Chhattisgarh Public Financial Management and Accountability Program.

• Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a defence public sector undertaking, presented SWAGAT – the Automatic Fare Collection Gating System. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the system on Monday as part of the inaugural of Phase I of the Ahmedabad Metro.

• President Trump notified the Congress his intent to terminate trade benefits for both India and Turkey under the Generalized System of Preference (GSP) eligibility criteria. About 2,000 products, including auto components and textiles, can enter the US duty-free if the beneficiary developing country meet the eligibility criteria.

• World Civil Defence Day is observed on 1st March every year, all over the world. The theme of this year’s World Civil Defence Day was “Children’s safety, our responsibility”. This day was incorporated in 1990 by the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO).

• National space agency ISRO and French space agency CNES signed an agreement to set up a joint maritime surveillance system in the country in May. K.Sivan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, and Jean-Yves Le Gall, President of CNES of France, signed the agreement in Bengaluru.

• Three Jharkhand districts Chatra, Sahibganj and Hazaribagh have topped in the ranking of aspirational districts by Niti Aayog for the December 2018-January 2019 period. Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant released the list of 112 aspirational districts across six developmental areas.

• United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has referred to India as a Key Hub for Illicit Drug Trade. The study has found more than 1,000 drug listings from India published across 50 online crypto-market platforms.

• According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate rose to 7.2% in February 2019, the worst in 28 months, and up from 5.9% in February 2018.

• On the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, French luxury goods tycoon Bernard Arnault has overtaken Berkshire Hathaway Chairman Warren Buffett as the world’s third-richest person. Arnault is now worth $83.1 billion, while Warren Buffett has a net worth of $83 billion.

• Indore was adjudged India’s cleanest city for the third straight year in the central government’s Swachh Survekshan 2019 awards. The second and third positions were grabbed by Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh and Mysuru in Karnataka, respectively. Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh is the cleanest capital city.

• Malaysia has ratified the Rome Statute to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The UN released a depositary notification indicating Malaysia’s accession to the ICC. The ICC is a court of last resort meant for the prosecution of serious international crimes.

• Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019’s official partner, TATA Motors will promote its newly-launched SUV, Harrier, as its lead brand at the event and showcase the SUV by means of the IPL platform.

• A Guinness World Record in Yoga was set by more than a thousand people who performed the Virabathrasan or the Warrior II Pose for 3 minutes, in Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park, Hong Kong.

• The refurbished Handloom Haat was inaugurated by Textiles Minister Smriti Irani at Janpath, New Delhi. The main aim is to provide infrastructural support to handloom agencies so that they can enhance their sales of handloom products and provide a platform to display a wide variety of handloom products that are produced all over the country.
