• Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched India Smart Cities Fellowship (ISCF) and Internship (ISCI) program that will provide the youth with an opportunity to experience the aspects of Urban Planning and Governance.

• ‘Smart Cities Digital Payments Awards’ was launched which is intended to promote ‘Digital India’ and ease of living for India’s urban residents encouraging Smart Cities to adopt innovative digital payments initiatives.

• Jhilli Dalabehera has bagged the bronze medal in the 2018 IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championship at Tashkent in 48kg category.

• Michael Ondaatje’s bestselling novel ‘The English Patient’ was announced as the winner of the Golden Man Booker Prize.

• Punjab Government has announced that it is going to provide Rs 5 lakh to every village that turns free of drugs to purchase sports and gym equipment for the youth.

• Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia won the gold medal at Tbilisi Grand Prix in Georgia in 65kg category. Deepak Punia won the bronze medal in the same event in 86kg category.

• BSNL has launched its internet telephony service called ‘Wings’. The subscribers will pay one time registration fee of Rs 1,099 and will be able to make calls using any internet connection including broadband, WiFi, 3G or 4G data network of any operator, thus overcoming connectivity problems.

• The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change declared 438 sq. km. area around the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in the Nilgiris as an eco-sensitive zone. This will prohibit construction and commercial mining activities and restrict hotels and resorts near the reserve.

• PM Modi will inaugurate the Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world, on 31st October, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
