• Russia celebrates Victory Day to commemorate the German surrender in World War II. On May 9, 2021, Russia ushered in the 76th anniversary of victory in World War II. A military parade was held on the Red Square located in Moscow. Since 1995, a parade will be held on May 9th every year.

• Elon Musk’s SpaceX launched SN15. Earlier, the initial attempt to launch the rocket ended in an explosion in the air. There was several explosions of SpaceX rockets in the past, which is mainly due to the methane-based propellant used by SpaceX.

• Sankar Ghosh, an award-winning Indian-origin immunologist, has been elected to the prestigious National Academy of Sciences in cognizance of his “distinguished and persevering with achievements in original research. He was among the one hundred twenty newly elected contributors announced by the Academy.

• Mumbai born, Dr Tahera Qutbuddin, a professor of Arabic Literature at the University of Chicago, lately grew to be the first character of Indian-origin to win the 15th Sheikh Zayed Book Award. The award is viewed to be the Nobel Prize of the Arab world.

• CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) launched a new mobile app for students and parents. The new app ‘Dost for Life’ is an special psychological counselling app for college students and dad and mom of CBSE-affiliated schools.
