• Mastercard and Google Pay have partnered to tokenize card-based payments. Google Pay users can now safely transact with their Mastercard credit and debit cards thanks to a tokenization method announced by Mastercard and Google. Google Pay Android users can now scan and pay at all Bharat QR-enabled merchants.

• For FY20-21, the Bank of Baroda has claimed the top spot in overall digital transactions among large banks. The bank was recognized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, at the Digital Payments Utsav for its remarkable development in digital payment transactions.

• Harjinder Singh has been selected India’s Chef de Mission for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The Indian Olympic Association of India (IOA) has named Harjinder Singh, the general secretary of the Ice Hockey Association of India, as the country’s Chef de Mission for the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

• Pradeep Kumar Rawat, a senior Indian diplomat with experience dealing with Chinese diplomats, has been named India’s next Ambassador to China. The appointment of Rawat comes in the midst of a prolonged border standoff in eastern Ladakh. Rawat is the country’s representative to the Netherlands at the moment.

• Uttar Pradesh Government is launching Free Smartphone Yojana Scheme on 25 December. On December 25, the birth anniversary of senior BJP leader and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh plans to start the ambitious “Free Smartphone Yojana.”

• On December 23, Kisan Diwas, or National Farmers’ Day, is observed across the country. It commemorates the birth anniversary of India’s fifth Prime Minister, Chaudhary Charan Singh. He implemented farmer-friendly policies and tried to ensure the farmers’ well-being.

• UN Women’s Award For Leadership Commitment 2021 Won By, Climate Activist, Divya Hegde At the 2021 Regional Asia-Pacific Women’s Empowerment Principles Awards Ceremony, Divya Hegde, an Indian Climate Action Entrepreneur from Udupi, Karnataka, received the UN Women’s Award for Leadership Commitment.
