• Between 2009 and 2019, 600 elephants died in India due to electrocution, according to data from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. In total, 116 people died in Karnataka, 117 in Odisha, and 105 in Assam. The only states with no such deaths are Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Maharashtra.

• The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) unanimously passed a resolution on December 22, 2021, allowing for sanctions exemptions against the Taliban. The exemptions are intended to make humanitarian aid delivery to Afghanistan easier. It covers urgent humanitarian assistance and other activities in Afghanistan.

• Several political parties and civic organizations, such as the K-Rail SilverLine Viruddha Janakeeya Samiti, have protested “Kerala’s SilverLine project.” MPs have signed a petition opposing the project, claiming that it is an “astronomical scam in the making” that will add to the state’s debt.

• KS Sethumadhavan, a legendary Malayalam filmmaker, has died at the age of 90. K. S. Sethumadhavan passed away on 24 December at the age of 90. K. S. Sethumadhavan was born on May 29, 1927, in Palghat, Madras Presidency, British India, to Subrahmanyam and Lakshmiyamma.

• At the FIS Alpine Skiing Competition 2021, Aanchal Thakur won bronze. A bronze medal for Indian skier Aanchal Thakur at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Skiing Competition in Montenegro. Her overall time was 1:54:30, which placed her third.

• RBI has extended the deadline for card tokenization until June 2022. The card-on-file (CoF) tokenization deadline has been extended by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) by six months, to June 30, 2022. Previously, the deadline was set for December 31, 2021.

• In Chennai, the Tamil Nadu government unveiled the “CM Dashboard Tamil Nadu 360,” a monitoring system for the Chief Minister (CM). Highlights It will allow CM to keep track of all welfare schemes, including their implementation status, fund allocation, and a number of beneficiaries, as well as information on water storage in dams.
