• Mirabai Chanu from Imphal won the silver medal and became the first Indian to win an Olympic medal at the Tokyo Games 2020 in the Women’s 49kg category. Zhihui Hou of China won the gold medal in the women’s 49-kg weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics, lifting 210 kg, while Windy Cantika Aisah of Indonesia won the bronze medal.

• In Madhya Pradesh, Orchha and Gwalior cities have been selected by UNESCO under its Historic Urban Landscape Project. Highlights: The project was started in 2011. The historic Urban Landscape project of UNESCO for the cities of Orchha and Gwalior was launched by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh through video conferencing.

• During 2017-18, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) of the Ministry of MSME launched the Honey Mission programme. It is being implemented in rural India to promote beekeeping activities and provide self-sustaining employment opportunities for farmers, Adivasis, and unemployed youth.

• The Reserve Bank of India may soon launch a pilot project to evaluate the feasibility of using digital currencies for wholesale and retail payments. These projects will help adjust RBI’s strategy to introduce a comprehensive central bank digital currency (CBDC). A high-level inter-ministerial committee appointed by the Finance Ministry.

• The government is implementing various schems to promote the welfare and promotion of all sectors of society, including ethnic minorities, especially the economically weaker and oppressed sectors throughout the country This information was provided in the Lok Sabha by the Union Minister for Minority Affairs.

• The Indian Navy and the Royal Navy Aircraft Carrier Strike Group (CSG)-21 participated in a two-day bilateral Passage exercise (PASSEX) in the Bay of Bengal, led by HMS Queen Elizabeth. The bilateral maritime exercises are designed to hone the capabilities of the two navies to work together at sea.

• Dvara E-Dairy Solutions has launched an AI (artificial intelligence) led digital tag, Surabhi e-Tag, to identify cattle based on muzzle identity. Dvara E-Dairy Solutions is a portfolio company of Dvara Holdings. This digital tag will be used for cattle insurance products offered in partnership with IFFCO Tokio General Insurance.

• India has secured 90.32 % in the UN Global Survey on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation 2021. The score of India in 2019 was 78.49 per cent. The overall score is found to be greater than many OECD countries, including France, UK, Canada, Norway, Finland.

• The G20 Meeting for Environment Ministers 2021 is one of the ministerial meetings organized as part of the G20 Leaders Summit 2021. The meeting is hosted by Italy in October 2021. This will focus on three broad, interconnected pillars of action: People, Planet, Prosperity.

• The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) observed the 161st Income Tax Day (also known as Aaykar Diwas) on July 24 2021. Highlights: In India, the Income Tax Day is celebrated every year on July 24, as it was on July 24 1980, that Income Tax was introduced in India by Sir James Wilson.
