• The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has kept the Repo rate unchanged in the December policy. The repo rate currently stands at 4%. The Reverse Repo rate is maintained at 3.35%. Also, the Marginal Standing Facility and Bank Rate also remain unchanged at 4.25%. The MPC announced this in view of reviving growth and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and also aims to ensure inflation that remains within the target, going forward.

• Each and Every year 5th December is celebrated as World Soil Day. The theme for World Soil Day 2020 is “Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity”. It aims to respond to the increasingly severe challenges of soil management, address the loss of soil biodiversity, increase soil awareness and encourage governments, organizations, communities and individuals around the world to make commitments to improve the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems.

• Every year, December 5 is celebrated as International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development. International Volunteer Day (IVD) for Economic and Social Development is also commonly referred to as International Volunteer Day (IVD). International Volunteer Day gives individual volunteers, communities and organizations the opportunity to promote their contribution to development at the local and national and also at international levels.

• US drugmaker Moderna said it is applying for Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA)for its Covid-19 vaccine. In India, the Serum Institute of India, which is testing an AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, said it expects to seek Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA)permission in the next two weeks. Vaccines, medicines, diagnostic tests, and medical equipment must be approved by regulatory agencies before they can be managed.

• MARCOS is deployed along with the Indian army in eastern Ladakh against the Chinese military. They are located near Pangong Tso Lake and will soon use boats for missions. The Marine Commando is called MARCOS for short, and is officially called the Marine Commando (MCF). The Indian Navy’s special forces are responsible for special operations.
