• Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight tested the Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) from Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha on 5th October 2020. SMART missile is the assisted release of lightweight Anti-Submarine Torpedo System for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations for far beyond torpedo range. This test demonstration are significant in establishing ASW capabilities.

• NITI Aayog, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and Invest India, jointly organize virtual ‘India PV EDGE 2020’, a global symposium on 6 October 2020 from 5-8.40 pm. The symposium includes sessions on ‘Wafers and Cells’, ‘Modules and Production Equipment’ and ‘Supply Chain’. The session also include a ‘Investors Conclave’ on PV Manufacturing.

• World Teachers’ Day is observed on 5 October every year. The day aims to provide a great opportunity to appreciate and thank all the teachers of the world who have gone out of their way to make sure no one is left behind. World Teachers’ Day 2020 assumes huge significance amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

• World Habitat Day 2020 is observed on the First Monday of October every year. The day is observed on 5th October with an aim to raise awareness about the importance of achieving sustainable development simultaneously. It also aims to provide shelter and basic amenities and improve the conditions of every human settlement. History: World Habitat Day was declared first in 1985 by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) after passing a resolution 40/202.

• The former judge and Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court (HC) Justice Anantkumar Surendraray Dave passed away on 5 October 2020. Before his retirement, Justice Anant Dave served as an Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat HC before the incumbent Chief Justice Vikram Nath. Justice
