• According to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation’s (IHME) most recent figures, the Covid-19 pandemic has been India’s leading cause of death. IHME is a non-profit global health research centre based at the University of Washington in the United States.

• In April 2021, the seasonally adjusted IHS Markit India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) was 55.5, unchanged from the previous month’s reading of 55.4. It is a survey-based metric that inquires about changes in respondents’ perceptions of key market variables over the previous month.

• After the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), banks, NBFCs, and MFIs have approved over 28.68 crore loans worth Rs. 14.96 lakh crore. It was established by the government in 2015 to provide non-corporate, non-farm small/micro-enterprises with loans of up to Rs. 10 lakh.

• The first supply of UCO (Used Cooking Oil) based Biodiesel blended Diesel under the EOI Scheme was flagged off by Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas from Indian Oil’s Tikrikalan Terminal in Delhi.

• The Government of India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has granted permission to Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) to conduct trials for the use and implementations of 5G technology. Reliance JioInfocomm Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., Vodafone Idea Ltd., and MTNL are among the TSPs that have applied.
