• Experts from the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) in Nagpur are studying the design of a crash barrier made of beema bamboo and coir fibre. These were developed as low-cost alternatives to steel barriers to reduce the number of fatalities in highway accidents. Crash Barrier: Install a five-feet long bamboo fence deep in the concrete slab and tie it together with strong coir ropes.

• In the city of Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, a Gangetic Dolphin was beaten to death. According to the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, killing the Ganges river dolphin is a punishable crime. About Gangetic Dolphin.

• The Prime Minister addressed an event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Shri Ram Chandra Mission. Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) is an non-profit organization and a spiritual movement that originated in India. It teaches the practice of the “Sahaj Marg” or “Heartfulness Meditation”. • The 70th anniversary celebrations of the CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute is on 17 February, 2021. CSIR-The Central Drug Research Institute is located in Lucknow and is one of the main research institutions in India. CDRI (Central Drug Research Institute) was established in 1951 as a constituent body of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

• The Union Cabinet has approved the PLI scheme for Telecom and Network Products. This scheme is part of the overall scheme approved by the Cabinet in November 2020, which aims to implement Production Linked-Incentives (PLI) for various ministries/departments. This is a continuation of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” strategy, which aims to increase India’s manufacturing capabilities and exports.

• The Cabinet approved the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) between India and Mauritius. The agreement is a limited agreement, covering Trade in Goods, Rules of Origin, Service Trade, Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) measures, Dispute Settlement, Movement of Natural Persons, Telecommunications, Financial services, Customs Procedures and Cooperation in other Areas.

• The forum is organized by NASSCOM and is a platform on which the technology industry is celebrated for being a pillar of business development during the current crisis, and the road map for the way ahead is formulated for building a better future and demonstrating the importance of trust and responsible technology in a super virtual world. This is the 29th NTLF event, and the theme of 2021 is “Shaping the Future, Towards a Better Normal”.

• Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the NITI Aayog Council meeting on February 20, 2021. During this meeting, problems related to agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure and human resource development will be discussed. This will be the 6th meeting of the Council. The newly added UT Ladakh will attend the meeting for the first time. Jammu and Kashmir will also participate as joint territories this year.

• Pi Beam is an emerging company incubated by IIT Madras, and recently launched an electric two-wheeler named “PiMO”. Pi Beam’s goal is to sell 10,000 vehicles by the end of the 2021-22 fiscal year. The bicycle was founded by IIT Madras Alum Visakh Sasikumar. 100 customers have booked electric bicycles. Electric two-wheelers charge faster than smartphones. Sustainable and affordable bicycles can travel 50 kilometers.

• Seven months after leaving the earth, NASA’s perseverance finally reached the destination Mars. Perseverance Rover was Launched in July 2020. It is expected to land on Mars at Jezero Crater. Perseverance’s main task is to find signs of ancient life and collect samples of rocks and conglomerates to return them to earth.
